VOLUNTEER

Volunteers will be partnered with experienced team members to learn all about TNR
 

     Activity Overview

1) Operation Spay Haywood (OSH)​ 

a. Pre-site activities,

b. At site, assist caregivers with the capture and return of neighborhood community cats,

c. Load and transport cats (in traps) weekly to/from the clinic in Asheville,

d. Care for captured cats (in traps) in the OSH cattery before and after transport to the clinic,

 f. Keep the cattery and equipment clean and stocked,​

2) Keeping  Outdoor (ear-tipped) Cats Healthy

 a. Deliver a monthly 15 lb. bag of Purina Cat Chow to one or more community cat colony

    caregivers, provide needed nutritional support, lend an ear to a fellow cat lover who

    may have an issue that LUYE's programs might solve.

 b. LUYE partners with Balsam Animal Hospital (BAH) Waynesville. Dr Paul Kern and BAH staff

   welcome cats in traps and understand the outdoor environment that is home to community

   cats. 

 c. Assemble and deliver LUYE's "Wellness Bags"

 

 

 

 

 

3) Volunteer Recruitment and Fundraising

  The phrase "unowned cat" means that no community cat sterilization receives state or local 

  funding. Although Haywood County Animal Services is not involved in TNR, low-cost barn cat

  adaptions are offered to reduce potential euthanasia's.  ​
